Pencil Drawings

While most of us use pencils to draw with, this crazy cat is using pencils to draw on!

Ghostpatrol, a self-taught artist from Australia spends his time drawing quirky sketch's on pencils. I love the child images as I for me they arouse nostalgia, the little rubbers on top of the pencils remind me of being at primary school, my barbie pencil case and generally being a kid!

What do you guys think of them? To check out more of his stuff click here.

Digital Deaths!

A great idea to raise money BuyLife.org. 1 Million dollars to be exact!

A load of celeb tweeting addicts are declaring dead, digitally ofcourse, until we donate money to BuyLife, a organisation dedicated to saving real lives affected by HIV/AIDS.

A great idea, as millions rely on the entertainment of celeb tweets and rants everyday and for those who are influenced by celebrity actions.

Where do ideas come from?

Something to read, instead of watch hey?

Where do ideas come from?

1. Ideas don't come from watching television
2. Ideas sometimes come from listening to a lecture
3. Ideas often come while reading a book
4. Good ideas come from bad ideas, but only if there are enough of them
5. Ideas hate conference rooms, particularly conference rooms where there is a history of criticism, personal attacks or boredom
6. Ideas occur when dissimilar universes collide
7. Ideas often strive to meet expectations. If people expect them to appear, they do
8. Ideas fear experts, but they adore beginner's mind. A little awareness is a good thing
9. Ideas come in spurts, until you get frightened. Willie Nelson wrote three of his biggest hits in one week
10. Ideas come from trouble
11. Ideas come from our ego, and they do their best when they're generous and selfless
12. Ideas come from nature
13. Sometimes ideas come from fear (usually in movies) but often they come from confidence
14. Useful ideas come from being awake, alert enough to actually notice
15. Though sometimes ideas sneak in when we're asleep and too numb to be afraid
16. Ideas come out of the corner of the eye, or in the shower, when we're not trying
17. Mediocre ideas enjoy copying what happens to be working right this minute
18. Bigger ideas leapfrog the mediocre ones
19. Ideas don't need a passport, and often cross borders (of all kinds) with impunity
20. An idea must come from somewhere, because if it merely stays where it is and doesn't join us here, it's hidden. And hidden ideas don't ship, have no influence, no intersection with the market. They die, alone.

Shelf Awards Work

This year's Shelf Award brief was to illustrate the importance of parents reading with their children and making it a daily part of their lives.

Our over arching theme was 'Don't be a part time character in your child's story'.

Exposed: Voyeurism, Surveillance and the Camera

Good afternoon Sunday blog readers,

Yesterday I attended an exhibition at the famous Tate Modern. 'Exposed' presents 250 works by celebrated artists and photographers.

The exhibition explored the idea of photography without permission touching on iconic and taboo subjects. It was deeper than I had expected, by capturing photos of people without them realising allows the true atmosphere of that particular moment to shine through, capturing true emotions within the photograph, the exhibition even hosts one room to moments of suicide attempts, and sadly successes.

What I particularly find interesting is our fasnication with other's private lives, reminding me of why Big Brother was such a phenomena and why people often spend hours on social networking sites. As a society we are obsessed with watching others, finding out about their lives and comparing our lives to theirs.

The exhibition also made me think about the concept of privacy in our current society. With expansion of the Internet and social networking sites privacy is an issue that has caused many debates, especially Facebook privacy. We constantly expose our lives to anyone who will listen or look at our pictures. Everything and anything is acceptable. I can find out what Joe Bloggs was doing last night, who he was with and his location, with the help of the recent Facebook places launch.

The exhibition also touched on surveillance. The UK is one of the most surveyed countries in the world, with technology constantly being updated allowing us to find new ways to have a glimpse of the lives of others.

All in all, a brilliant day out that I would recommend before it ends next weekend, it questions many things that are so relevant in our current climate and gave me real food for thought. Go along and see what you think for yourself.

Bad Blogger People!

Firstly we would like to apologise for the lack of posts.

As most universities start back tomorrow we felt we should update you on how life is going as postgrads.

We are entering our 9th week at Billington Cartmell now and are still enjoying the new and exciting briefs which are being thrown at us everyday. We have been working on some great stuff and given responsibility of live work with deadlines to meet! All very exciting!

As one of many grads at the agency we are beginning to settle in, finding our feet within the dynamics of the agency, which is great. What the future holds for us when our three month probation is up is still undecided, but all is very exciting.

Lee and I are looking to write a short post here soon, giving advice to the current 3rd year advertising students at from our university and to anyone else who will listen to us for that matter!

Stay tunes.

A Friday Night Worth Recommending...

So... Another brilliant week at Billington Cartmell, we have been working on some challenging but fun briefs, enjoyed meeting more people and having a few (to many) social bevvies after work.

To top this week of a 'school trip' was organised by another team, Katy and Fran, to go to an interesting exhibition by Ernesto Nero, a contemporary visual artist, at the Southbank Centre. The exhibition entitled Ernesto Nero: The Edges Of The World, aimed to resemble and make you believe, you were inside an organism. Interesting to say the least. He had created crazy installations filled with colour, smell and a huge interactive element within the exhibition itself.

It is something we would definitely a recommend to anyone looking to get some inspiration!

Here's a few piccies I caught on my iPhone as a sneak preview.

What a week!

Dear Blog,

Well, where to begin?

Firstly, apologies for neglecting our blog, we have both been very busy, well, whilst one has been sunning themselves the other has been very busy... we will let you guess which.

We have been working at Billington Cartmell this week, an intergrated agency based in Chelsea. Well, what a week it has been. Everyone there has been very welcoming and within a few days we felt part of the furniture.

We have been working on some really cool briefs and are ready to get our teeth into the agency's baby (not an ACTUAL baby) in the coming week.

The REALLY good news is that we'll be there for at least three months after being offered a contract until the end of October.

So, with some regular work going on now we will have time to focus on other bits and pieces in the advertising world that are interesting us right now... whether they are hot or not!

Keep watching this space...

Uni? Been there, done that. Next.

Having now completed our degree, both having finished with a 2:1 (Nice!) we're back in London town and want jobs!

We are starting a placement at Brave next Monday, which we're both bloomin' excited about, and start a month long placement at BMB the following week.

Since New Blood and Shelf, we've getting some extra attention, which is only making us more eager by the day to jump in and get our hands dirty.

Watch this space. Qualityyyyyyyyyy.

The Shelf Awards 2010 RUNNERS UP

A second great result within a week. Last night we finished as runners up to the 2010 Shelf Awards winning... a shelf (obviously).

Had a fantastic night collecting business cards and dishing out our own. Our pile of about 25 cards had all gone by the end of the night, so we're hopeful for some interest very soon. Having already secured a placement at BMB for the duration of August, we're hoping for something to do in September and onwards.

Really chuffed after a fantastic week. Looking forward to seeing what's to come.

New Blood 2010 WINNERS

After attending last night's D&AD New Blood Exhibition on Brick Lane we are proud to say we have been picked as winners of New Blood 2010. :)

Take a look to see our names up in lights, www.d&ad.org. It was a fantastic evening filled with exciting industry people, some great competition from other universities, and last but not least... free booze! We are both chuffed to bits as the standard of work was excellent.

The awards are tonight and the event continues until Monday, so if you haven't had to chance to get down yet, make sure you do before the event is over.
